The Red & Blue Machine Again
First off, let me say I thought SUPERMAN RETURNS was super-super fun. It was exciting, the acting was good enough, the specific line readings that needed to be perfect were just that, the action was riveting and I actually LIKED the story even.

Of course I saw flaws and have other reactions and opinions.

For anyone who felt the story was weak, they seriously don’t understand Superman or Superman’s characters. Lex Luthor is a greedy, petty man. A real estate scam is about as big as his business-minded brain will conceive. This is not your cartoon or comic book Lex who tries to achieve actual godhood and world domination through machinations of pure insanity… this is a man as small as his ego is big. He’s evil and devilish and sinister and a bastard, but when it comes to the end, all he can think is MONEY! Like Glumgold from Scrooge McDuck.

I loved that both Noel Neill and Jack Larson were in the film; that was sweetness, even if they were in minor parts. Jack at least got to play an older Jimmy Olsen in Lois & Clark.

Movies I noticed were referenced:
Towering Inferno
Titanic
Poseidon
Panic Room

Only Bryan Singer & John Ottman would have a dog eating scene in Superman. Anyone who hated it or didn’t see it was Bryan’s way to remind people he’s Bryan Singer, obviously only think Bryan Singer makes superhero movies. This is a man who helmed the adaptation of one of Stephen Spielberg’s most uncomfortable stories. The man who co-created Keiser Soze! The man who’s editor was the person who came up with the music for movies like “I Have No Mouth and I must Scream”, “Hide and Seek” and Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang.”. John Ottman, the edtor in question is also his best friend. A DOG ATE A DOG… what’s not to laugh and love!?!? Okay I can understand some people horried by that, but it was my FAVORITE part of the entire film.

At the end of the film, after the aftermath and everyone was back in the newsroom, I’d of liked if Jimmy made an acknowledgement and asked if anyone had heard from Clark. It’s just like… big catastrophe, world is destroyed, Superman dies. I know it’s a lot to take, but in the beginning of the film, Jimmy hugs Kal-El like his long lost brother just got out of jail after 25 years of a crime he didn’t commit, yet no one seems to be concerned that Clark Kent is nowhere to be found in all this. Sure he disappeared five years ago, but he just came back… he wouldn’t run in the face of adversity.

A car careened all the way through downtown Metropolis and not a single person got hit?!?!?

Superman is quite the voyeuristic, stalking dick isn’t he? I know you love Lois man, but you’re Superman, just get some pussy and stop being a pervert!

We had heard the John Williams score at least three times already in the flick, as much as I love it, I would’ve loved to heard some John Ottman remix over the closing credits and maybe some bloopers or deleted scenes over them to.

I'm gonna see it, but most of the "spoilers" were already in the reviews!
