The New York Public Library, A Treasure Trove Of Weirdness
I took care of a bunch of work related things yesterday, even assisting a friend out with some information. It took a lot out of me, running around outside more than inside all over Times Square in that hot weather in dark pants and long white shirt. Luckily I found the time to duck into the mian branch of NYPL. Not the famous one with the lions that was in Ghostbusters, but the regular one that's across the street. The place wherethey have concerts and readings and also have a small little book store. The bookstore at the 40th St. branch is NOTHING compared to the one up at 76th and York (aka The Book Cellar), but you can find stuff there and I came across some really fun stuff this time.

I got two CD-ROMS:
One was a promotional Macromedia and Quicktime presentation for Bruce Barry Wacky World Studios. The disc had some behind the scenes footage and storyboards and history videos which don't seem to actually appear on the studios main site. The disc was I'm guessing 2003 and was mostly meant to promote the first The Roach Approach direct to DVD CGI film.

The other disc was labeled from Tucasa Entertainment and it contained various important elements for the I believe still in production animated feature Sian Ka'an. It had background images, model sheets and animatics WITH voice overs. I only played around with the disc for a bit, but I heard Cheech Marin and
Alfred Molina recordings.

Those two were $1 each and since thy're pretty rare, unusual items that doesn't seem expensive in the least.

and Three books:
The first book in the Children's/YA series of Princess Natasha , which will soon be a DC Comic and will also be on DVD as well. This book doesn't officially come out till May and I got it for 75 cents!

A book from 1981 called Sin City Fables. It has NOTHING to do with Frank Miller's "epic" but is instead modern adaptation of calssic fairy tales written by voice actor/screenwriter Marshall Efron and his partner Alfa-Betty Olsen. It features artwork by New York Time's and current Parson's Faculty Steven Guarnaccia and production design by New York Time's and current SVA faculty Steven Heller.

and FEED by M.T. Anderson. The back text and interview after the book with the writer really enticed me to pick it up, and at 75 cents, it's all good.

If I saw more that I wanted I would've gotten it since the money all goes back into the library anyways. Alas, nothing else caught my eye... THAT day.
